The Collection

les Abattoirs, Musée-Frac Occitanie Toulouse

The collection of les Abattoirs - Frac Occitanie Toulouse is built upon a synergy between the Frac and the Toulouse Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art collections. It also benefits from substantial deposits from the Centre Pompidou (Daniel Cordier collection) and from private collections.

Apart from several amazing exceptions (Rideau de scène pour le 14 juillet produced by Picasso in 1936), it is made up of some 3,400 works spanning the 1950s to now. The collection stands out by historical standards in the domain of abstraction, Informal Art and major artists from southern Europe. Today, the collection develops through several sets, regarding relationships between nature and culture, poetic economy, image and its dissemination as well as individual and group narratives. Simultaneously envisaging art in its own history and as an instrument to understanding and modifying the world, the collection is displayed thematically at Les Abattoirs in Toulouse taking shape on a 3,000 m² site.

These presentations evolve with respect to temporary exhibitions, and circulate throughout the region through exhibitions, invitations to artists, peripatetic projects and distribution through schools.
