The Collection

Frac des Pays de la Loire

The Frac des Pays de la Loire collection has a wealth of over 1,600 works produced by almost 500 artists (230 French). The acquisition committees are forward-looking and attentive to emerging art scenes whilst at the same time ensuring the presence of more renowned artists notably those that already feature in the collection. Thanks to Ateliers Internationaux and to other production times, the collection is fuelled by pieces that have a meaning in the history and the places that the Frac has occupied.

The collection is based on works from the 1960s to today that reflect the wide-ranging nature of contemporary art and brings together practices as diverse as painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, video and installation. Without emphasising a particular theme, subjects have emerged in the collection. Firstly based on a reinterpretation of the history of art, also around questions regarding modernity: architecture and the city; artwork and its context; abstraction. Or even around certain gestures and postures like performance reflecting the work of gina pane, a collection of which is owned by the Frac as well as being responsible for a large deposit.

Frac des Pays de la Loire is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Communication - DRAC des Pays de la Loire, and the Pays de la Loire Region.
